The smart contact lens was made for people who suffer from diabetes in the hopes that they can more accurately monitor their glucose levels. The blog states:
We’re testing prototypes that can generate a reading once per second. We’re also investigating the potential for this to serve as an early warning for the wearer, so we’re exploring integrating tiny LED lights that could light up to indicate that glucose levels have crossed above or below certain thresholds.Google says they intend to find partners to help bring the smart contact lens to market, along with creating apps that will display the glucose level information gathered from the lens to both the user and their doctor. The blog has no word on when the first of these products might be released to the public.
